Nicholette Hare begins her job as Marion’s Elementary School principal on Sept. 3 and she is quite aware of the District’s small-school culture.
In fact, that’s exactly what drew her to the job.
“I’m excited to come back to a small community,” said Hare, whose appointment was unanimously approved by the Board of Education at its Aug. 20 meeting. “I graduated from a small school (Iroquois, near Buffalo) and it felt like home immediately.”
Previously, Mrs. Hare taught science and technology (grades 3-5) at East Irondequoit, worked in school improvement at Monroe 1 BOCES and was the Director of Technology at Honeoye. She currently is an assistant principal at Young Women’s College Prep Charter School in Rochester.
Mrs. Hare is eager to get started at Marion and discover how she can best use her experience in education to fit into the Marion mission to help all students thrive.
“The people know their community best so they will be my eyes and ears to make Marion a better place,” she said. “I see myself as part of a team to move the school forward as a community.”
Her introduction to the community aspect of Marion was evident early. It was something she discovered during the interview process, and it cemented her decision to seek the position.
“It felt so good,” she said. “I loved the questions that I was asked because even though I was being interviewed, I was interviewing in a way, too. But I loved the multiple stakeholders that were involved with the kids, parents and teachers. It’s such a respectful process and that really energized me.”
Mrs. Hare is married with three children: an 18-year-old daughter who is a student at St. Bonaventure, a 15-year-old daughter who is a sophomore at Fairport and a son who is 9 months old. The family also has a dog named Oliver and pet rabbit named Lola.
In its spare time, the family enjoys being together, especially if it’s on a glamping trip, hiking in the woods or biking down the Erie Canal path.
“We love being outside, getting fresh air,” she said.
Of course, there is plenty of fresh air in Marion. Throw in the small-school setting and her experience as a caring administrator and it all comes together to make this an ideal fit for Mrs. Hare.
“I am pleased to welcome Mrs. Hare to Marion Elementary,” Superintendent Dr. Ellen Lloyd said. “She interviewed with all stakeholders - parents, staff, students and administration - and rose to the top of that process. She brings a strong skill set in instructional leadership and behavior management, which are essential components of the elementary principal role. I am excited to have her join our team here in Marion.”
