Classroom lessons put into action by Marion second-graders

December 22, 2025
Classroom lessons are put into action by Marion second graders.
Second graders at Marion did more than ring in the season: They learned some valuable lessons while doing their best to spread holiday cheer!

The entire second grade class at Marion made the trip to Tops Friendly Markets in Walworth on December 16 to ring the Salvation Army bells and encourage donations to the traditional red kettle.

The action tied in to the social studies lesson for the students, which encourages community service. Math lessons were covered by students using Salvation Army vouchers at Tops to shop for food items that benefit the Elementary School’s food pantry.

Empathy, compassion and generosity are part of the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) lessons and ELA standards of speaking and listening were important aspects. Even music was covered as students made bells in their music classes.

Thank you to teachers Mrs. Vernon, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Atkins and Mrs. Turnbow for coordinating this experience for our young learners to put school lessons into action!
